Betty Carolyn Hendrix Brown, 83, of Candler, died on Sunday, August 6, 2017, at her home.
A native of Buncombe Co., Betty was a daughter of the late Clarence and Emma Revis Hendrix. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Winfred Cole Brown.
Mrs. Brown was a graduate of Candler High School, where she excelled on the basketball team. She was a lifelong and active member of Pole Creek Baptist Church. She enjoyed singing in nursing homes, and also with the Sunday Night Gospel Singers, who met every Sunday night at her home. Mrs. Brown retired from Square D, and was an avid UNC Tar Heel fan.
Surviving are her daughter, Kathy Brown McCurry; son, Larry Winfred Brown; grandchildren, Adam Brown, Heath Brown (Betsy), Cole McCurry (Braedy), and Katie McCurry Fournier (Andrew); great-grandchildren, Brayden, Nevaeh, Emma, and Gunner; sister, Becky Floyd (Fred); and brothers Ernest Hendrix and David Hendrix (Anita).
The funeral service for Mrs. Brown will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Pole Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dennis Thurman officiating. Interment will follow at Pisgah View Memorial Park.
Her family will receive friends 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the church, prior to the service.
