Carroll S. Elingburg, 67, of Anderson, S.C. passed away at his home Thursday, December 9, 2010, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born in Asheville on November 8, 1943 to Raymond and Mary Ann Elingburg, Carroll was one of ten children. He graduated from Valley Springs High School in 1962 and attended Asheville-Biltmore College from 1962-65. Following school, he was employed with the Taylor, Cutler Hammer, Eaton and Kemet Corporations, and managed the Carolina Springs Golf Course in Simpsonville, SC. During his career, Carroll also served his country as a member of the Army Reserves. He was an accomplished athlete and avid golfer throughout his life, and he even played with his brothers on the Elingburg Family basketball team, which was coached by their dad and raised money for Skyland-based charities.
Known to all who love him as a fun-loving prankster, Carroll will be remembered for his unfailing humor and infectious personality. His legacy remains as that of a consummate family man and devoted friend, and he will be missed every day by those who were blessed to know him.
Carroll was preceded in death by his father Raymond, his brother Ted, his sister-in-law Dolly and his cherished dog Lacey.
He is survived by his loving wife, Karen and their dog Pepe; stepdaughter Kristen Randle and her husband Chuck and granddaughter Emma Grace of Blythewood, SC; stepson Jarvis Lane of Greenville, SC; in-laws Kenneth and June Godbold of Marion, SC; brother-in-law Ricky and his wife Lisa of Marion, SC.
He is also survived by his beloved mother, Mary Ann Elingburg of Skyland; brother Ray of Weaverville; sister Anne Morgan of Arden; brother Charles and his wife Mary Ruth of Arden; brother Earl of North Myrtle Beach, SC; brother John "Tommy" and his wife Willene of Greenwood, SC; sister Shelia of Lexington, KY; brother Rick and his wife Jan of Asheville; and sister Shannon Capps and her husband Leonard of Monroe. Carroll also leaves behind 17 nieces and nephews and 16 great-nieces and great-nephews who all love him dearly.
There will be a visitation held on Saturday, December 11 from 2-4 p.m. at McDougald Funeral Home in Anderson, SC.
On Sunday, December 12, a visitation for Carroll will be held at Skyland United Methodist Church in Asheville from 1-3 p.m., followed by a service at 3 p.m. officiated by the Reverend Keith Turman. A private burial will take place after the service at New Salem Cemetery.
