Elizabeth “Annette” Adkins, 64, of Black Mountain, NC, transitioned peacefully from this life to life eternal on November 29, 2017 surrounded by the love of family and friends at the Hospice Solace Center in Asheville, NC.
Annette was a life-long resident of Buncombe County and served her beloved community as a nurse for 42 years. She cared for all the patients she served with great respect and compassion. In addition to nursing, Annette loved spending time tending her garden which was always filled with beautiful flowers and plants. She also took great pride in her home and filled it with treasured antiques and pictures of her family. Annette always left things more beautiful than she found them.
Annette will always be remembered as an incredible mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was preceded in death by her parents Hazel and J.B. Rice of Swannanoa, NC. Those who remain to continue her legacy of love and service are: daughter, Tiffany Taylor and husband Jason of Swannanoa, NC; sister Margaret Martin and niece Jordan Martin of Cedar Point, NC; sister Sandi Rice and spouse Carlene Wood of Asheville, NC. It was her three granddaughters, Olivia, Madeline and Mallory Taylor, who were the light of her life. She loved them so much that she battled cancer with her whole being so that she could spend the last three years with them, making sure they knew they were her greatest joy. She is also survived by son, Justin Adkins.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Anita Deshpande and staff of Asheville Hematology and Oncology, staff of CarePartners Hospice and the Hospice Solace Center staff for their care and compassion. Each person who so lovingly cared for her is greatly appreciated.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Oakley United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to ArtSpace Charter School’s Vision Fund or CarePartner’s Your Special Fund for Home Health. Annette would want everyone she loved to remember to take care of their health and not to forget their annual physical.
Groce Funeral Home on Tunnel Road is assisting the family.
