ASHEVILLE, NC - Joann Elaine Ernst Jump, age 79, died Tues., Dec. 6, 2016 at St. Joseph's Hospital campus.
Joann was a native of Dayton, Ohio and had lived in Asheville since 1990. Most recently, she was a resident of Trinity View Senior Living Community in Arden.
Joann was a daughter of the late John Ernst and Dorothy Parsons Ernst. She was preceded in death by a son, Craig Matthew Jump, who died in 1962. She was a graduate of Fairmont High School in Kettering, Ohio, and attended Ohio University where she studied education and was a member of Kappa Delta. Joann began her career as a school teacher and was also, in later years, an interior designer. In 1992, she became a successful life and health insurance agent representing Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Asheville until her retirement in 2006.
Joann followed many sports but was particularly a loyal fan of the University of Kentucky basketball team. She was a gifted flutist and piccolo player and passed her appreciation for music on to all of her children. Still, Joann's favorite activity was a family meal with her children, grandchildren, and friends. She was a devoted and loving mother to all of her children and a member of the Church of the Resurrection. She was a woman of faith and worked hard to raise her children in the eyes of the Lord.
Joann is survived by six children, Douglas Jump of Cincinnati, Ohio; Darren Jump (Sonya) of Temecula, Calif.; Pamela Boston (Scott) of Evansville, Ind.; Lisa Anderson (John) of West Chester, Ohio; Ellen Darnall (Jeff) of Flemingsburg, Ky., and John Jump (Jeannie) of Duluth, Ga.; one sister, Jayne Cosmar of West Palm Beach, Fla., along with several grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and three nieces.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Sat., Feb. 18, 2017 at the Church of the Resurrection in Asheville with the Ven. William G. McLoughlin officiating. Burial will be private at a later date.
