Lois McClellan Barrett, 78, of Asheville, passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Carillon Assisted Living, Hendersonville, after a long battle with dementia.
Born in Asheville, she was the wife of the late John Frank Barrett, who died in 2003, and the daughter of the late Clarence Joseph and Edna Jenkins McClellan. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Walter and Richard McClellan; and a sister, Ruth Ballard.
Lois was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in the Riceville Community in East Asheville where she made friendships lasting over 50 years.
An avid shagger, Lois was a member of a Shag Club in Arden where she never met a stranger. She was a strong, kind, and dedicated woman who gave her life to her Lord and her family. She was a former member of the Asheville Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Lois is survived by 2 daughters: Sandra Barrett McPeters of Asheville and Brenda Barrett Perry (Eddie) of Hendersonville; a grandson, Eric Daniel McPeters (Kristianna) of Fairview; a brother, Donald McClellan (Johnnie) of Arden; a number of nieces and nephews and many friends.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 12, 2018 at 7:30 PM at Bethel United Methodist Church, 1056 Riceville Road, Asheville, NC 28805 with Pastor Terry Duckworth officiating. Family and friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Western Carolina State Veterans' Cemetery in Black Mountain on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at 12:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Lois’ memory may be made to the church at the address above.
