Walter "Doc" Monroe Dockins, Sr., 70, left his family to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 3, 2017 at his residence, in the presence of his loved ones.
Walter was born in Buncombe Co. to the late John and Edith Butler Dockins.
Doc is survived by his wife of 50 years, Linda Baker Dockins; two sons, Walter Monroe Dockins, Jr. and Travis P. Dockins; one daughter and a daddy's girl, Corina R. Dockins Hensley; a brother, Keith Dockins and his wife, Becky; two sisters, Gail Dockins and Jacqui McGloghain and her husband, Mike; five grandchildren, Cody, Christian, Dakota, Curry and Madeline; and two great-grandchildren, Breezy and Amberlin.
Walter graduated from TC Roberson High School. He continued his education at Haywood Tech and Cecil's Business College.
He chose to serve his country in the USAF and then continued to serve his hometown as a firefighter at the Asheville Fire Department for 26 years.
When he wasn't helping others, he loved to go fishing and antiquing. He loved '57 Chevy's and '32 Fords. He loved music with every bone in his body, even though he couldn't carry a tune in a bucket.
He loved his family more than anything in this world.
Thank you to the WNC Cancer Center, Wake Forest, and UAMS in AK. He was able to spend an extra few months with his family before losing his long battle with multiple myeloma.
The family will receive friends Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 8th at 1:00 PM at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian with Revs. Keith Dockins and Jimmy Sayles officiating. Burial will follow at New Salem Cemetery in Skyland.
Thank you to every wonderful soul who prayed for Walter. He was and always will be our hero. God is good all the time! God bless all of you!
