Roy Hillard Lytle, 90, of Winder, GA, and formerly of Hi Alta Avenue, Asheville, died on Monday, July 10, 2017, at an area Athens, GA, hospital after a brief illness.
Mr. Lytle was born in Asheville on March 30, 1927, to the late Joe Lytle and Mable Lytle Connell. He was an Asheville resident for 81 years before moving to an assisted living facility in Winder. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Army in Alaska. He retired from the Veterans Administration Hospital, in Asheville after a career of more than 30 years. He was a member of Malvern Hills Presbyterian Church, in Asheville.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Louise Hughes Lytle; son, Donald Lytle; and stepfather, Clegg Connell.
Mr. Lytle us survived by his daughter, Teresa Wyatt and husband Dan, of Georgia; granddaughter, Kristen Lytle Scarborough; grandson, Charles “Chuck” Lytle; great-grandsons, C.J. and Matthew Scarborough, all of Tennessee; sisters, Corrine Miller, of North Carolina, Ida Dunbar, of Idaho, Fran McDowell, of Michigan, Rita Hefner, Betty Whiteman, and Barbara Lytle, all of Ohio; and stepmother, Goldie Lytle, also of Ohio.
A special "thank you" to the staff of Magnolia Estates Retirement Center, in Winder, for taking such good care of Roy for the past nine years and to Gentiva Hospice of Athens for their help during the final weeks of his life.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Groce Funeral Home chapel on Patton Avenue, Asheville, with the Rev. Larry Potts officiating. Burial will follow at Pisgah View Memorial Park, Candler, NC.
His family will receive friends for one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.
