James Jackson “Jim” Swain, of Asheville, passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at his home.
Jim was born on October 25, 1933 in Forsyth County, the son of the late James S. and Zeter Daniel Swain. Mr. Swain was a member of Beverly Hills Baptist Church and Groce United Methodist Church. He was predeceased by 5 sisters and 2 brothers.
Surviving are 3 sons: James J. Swain, Jr and wife Robin, L. Todd Swain of Asheville and W. Ware Swain of Raleigh; 4 grandchildren: Samantha and Jackson Swain and Sydney and Tanner Swain; one brother, Jerry Swain and wife Linda of Wilmington.
Jim was a veteran of the US Army and retired from AT&T after 34 years of service. He was a lifelong member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, having served a term as Chapter President. He was a member of the Haw Creek Lions Club and Mount Mitchell Bear Hunting Club.
Dad was a loving father who deeply cared for his family. He now rests in peace with his Lord Jesus Christ and his loved ones who passed on before him. Dad, your work here is done and you can rest in assured peace until we are all together again!
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 18, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Groce Funeral Home on Tunnel Road with Rev. Gerald Davis officiating. Family and friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be private in the NC State Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain.
