Kenneth Fayte Singleton, 69, of Candler, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, April 10, 2018.
A native of Buncombe Co., Ken was a son of the late Wiley Carroll and Josephine Moore Singleton. He was also preceded in death by brothers Jim and Ric Singleton.
Mr. Singleton attended Haywood Community College where he received an Associate in Applied Sciences Degree in Manufacturing Engineering Technology. He joined the U.S. Army in 1968, and served as Spec 5 in Korea. He worked for 20 years for Overnite Transportation as a terminal manager until retirement. He then worked for 19 years for the US Postal Service as a maintenance manager at the general mail facility in Asheville, also retired. For the past 4 years, Ken enjoyed working as the courtesy driver for Harry's On The Hill.
Ken always had a deep love and appreciation for music, and served as student band director at Enka High School during his senior year. He played the tuba since the fourth grade, and had been tubist with the Land of the Sky Symphonic Band for many years.
Ken served as minister of music for several churches including First Baptist Church of Belvedere, SC, Cross Lanes Baptist Church in Cross Lanes, W.VA., Memorial Baptist Church in Brownsburg, IN, and for the past 25 years at Liberty Baptist Church in Candler. He also was a member of the Gideons International.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Janice Clark Singleton; daughter, Sharon Renee Singleton and Frank Buffum of Candler; son, Brian Kenneth Singleton and wife Victoria of Riceville, TN; grandchildren, Lauren, Devin and Kendra Singleton of Riceville, TN, Austin Loeffler of Asheville, and SrA Leigha Clayton-Cornell, USAF, of Shreveport, LA; brothers, Jerry Singleton and wife Dena, and J.C. Singleton and wife Jan; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services for Mr. Singleton will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at Liberty Baptist Church, with the Rev. Derrick McCarson officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.
