Elizabeth “Betty” Amanda Kinchen, 64, of Candler passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at her residence. A native of Panama, Betty was the daughter of the late Rudolph and Tilcia Tejeira Kinchen.
Betty held degrees in psychology and physical therapy and worked for many years as a physical therapist with Mission Hospital and subsequently with the WNC Baptist Home. Within her first month at WNC Baptist Home she was recognized as an outstanding employee, a testimony to her strong work ethic.
Betty is survived by her partner of 15 years, Angela Alexander, her loving family in Panama, and her large chosen circle of family and friends in Asheville, NC.
Betty devoted much of her time and energy to caring for her patients and family. Betty was a consummate caregiver with an exceptional capacity to love. Her compassionate care mingled with her sense of humor, kindness, and empathy were gifts to all those privileged enough to share her presence. Betty knew every patient and colleague by first name, shared hugs and blew kisses, asked about family members and silently prayed with those in need. She was an extraordinary mentor as many students and colleagues can attest. By their continuing to model what Betty taught them, her spirit lives on!
Betty had many diverse talents. In addition to her role as a caregiver, she loved plants and gardening. She had an artist’s eye and her photography was distinctive in capturing the beautiful in the ordinary. Betty was also an accomplished chef. After a long day of work, Betty could be found in her kitchen cooking while simultaneously singing and dancing with her four-legged babies.
Simply stated, Betty was a remarkable human being with a beautiful soul. She is deeply loved and cherished and will be deeply missed.
Those who desire may make contributions to Brother Wolf Animal Rescue (31 Glendale Ave, Asheville, NC 28803, www.bwar.org) in memory and honor of Betty.
Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave is assisting the family.
A celebration of life service will be held on May 5, 2018. Details will be announced at a later date.
