James Edward Parton, 80, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 5, 2012. Born in Madison County to the late William Carl Parton, Jr. and Lola Parton, he was a retired Crane Operator for R & W., Inc. He is preceded in death by three brothers, Junior Parton, Reggie Parton and Charles Parton, and two sisters, Irene Brady and Shirley Rhymer. Mr. Parton is survived by his wife, Ruth Bradley Parton; one son, James Parton, Jr. of Christiansburg, VA; three daughters, Paula Parton Cathy Sherlin, and Peggy Parton, all of Asheville; two brothers, Max Parton of Asheville and Jim Parton of Black Mountain; two sisters, Clara Marlow and Joyce Williams both of Black Mountain; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 2 pm in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home, Tunnel Road, with Rev. Butch Stillwell officiating. A service to honor Mr. Parton will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Gashes Creek Cemetery. A reception will be held at Jim Parton's residence following the service. Memorials may be made to Hospice Solace Center, 68 Sweeten Creek Road, Asheville, NC, 28803 or to the Alzheimer's Association, 31 College Place #D320, Asheville, NC, 28801.

Max,when I saw the photo of your brother,before I read the column,I immediately thought of you.You two could of been twins.My heart nearly broke into again at the thoughts of losing yet another friend.If James were even half the man that you are then he was a very exceptional person.May God pour his Blessings on the entire family during this your time of sorrow and that you all find peace in the coming days.

  3. To the Parton Family; I am so sorry for your loss. Daniel always talked of Ruth and your family. Daniel took me to meet James and Ruth and they were very welcoming to me. I remember Daniel calling and taking with Ruth by phone many times before his death in 2008. I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers. Vickie Jennings.

  5. Pardon Family I was friends with James from Adult day my best memory of James was last year when my Sister came to pick me up and he walked outside with us and crawled into the van with us until my Sister told Michelle that we had to go get the dog from the Kennel.

    I’m sorry to hear about James he was one of my helpers in the cafe at Adult Day,he would help drying dishes wiping the tables anything he could help with he was there.I would give him extra food when he would tell me he was hungry.I enjoyed being around James.
