Juanita Phipps Shope Brown, 85, of 207 Holcombe Cove Road, Candler, died Tuesday, October 23, 2012. Mrs. Brown was born in Buncombe County and was retired from the National Climatic Center as a Photo Lab Technician. She also operated her own photography studio. She was known as the "Flower Lady of Holcombe Cove" because she shared her cut flowers with neighbors and friends. Surviving are her husband, Charlie Brown; son, Robert Shope and wife Barbara, of Lugoff, SC; step-son Bobby Brown of Candler; step-daughters Marilyn Lanier of Dallas, NC, and Norma Jean Scarborough of Hendersonville, NC; special friend Sheila Swicegood; three sisters, Martha Griffin of Fletcher, Annabelle Beverly of Paducah, KY, and Jeanette Wallen of Valporiso, IN; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. A memorial service is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. Sunday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Melba Banks officiating. Although Juanita loved flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to one's favorite charity in her memory.
