Mary Ullianee Braden, 102, of the Asheville Manor, died Friday, February 15, 2013, at Mission Hospital following a brief illness. She would have been 103 on March 25, 2013. Mrs. Braden was the youngest child of Guy and Emma Bowlds. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Arthur Braden (Nov. 13, 1991), four brothers, two sisters, two daughters-in-law, and one great-granddaughter. Left to share her memory are two sons, Arthur Braden and wife, Darlene, of Lexington, SC, and David Braden and wife, Joyce, of New Lenox, IL; one daughter, Rita Pataky and husband, George, of Asheville; seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. Mary was born in Owensboro, KY and lived most of her married life in Chicago, IL. They retired to Cotter, Arkansas and finally to Asheville for the last 27 years. She was a member of the Basilica of St. Lawrence and was an active resident at her "former home" at the Battery Park Apartments, where she was known as the "Hat Lady". The Rev, Fr. C. Morris Boyd, D.Min., will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Basilica of St. Lawrence, D.M. Interment will follow at Lewis Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Monday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue, followed by a Prayer Service at 6:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Basilica of St. Lawrence, 97 Haywood Street, Asheville, NC 28801.
