Dorothy Parrack Leeson, "Dotty", age 80, of 66 Wagon Trail, Black Mountain, NC passed away unexpectedly on Sunday July 28, 2013.
A native of Terra Alta, WV, Mrs. Leeson was preceded in death by her parents, Luther Deets Parrack, Sr. and Eleanor Benson Parrack.
Dorothy grew up in Terra Alta where her parents owned and operated the general store. She went on to attend West Virginia University where she was an active member of Alpha Phi Fraternity and completed a degree in elementary education. While at WVU, Dorothy met her husband, John. They fell in love at first sight and enjoyed a lifetime of happiness together. Dotty and John would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this August.
Dotty was active in the Highland Farms Community where she resided with John. She sang in the choral group and enjoyed playing the piano for special events. Avid music lovers, Dotty and John enjoyed attending many concerts and performances together. They also shared a love of nature and moved to Black Mountain for the beautiful scenery and the wonderful community they found at Highland Farms.
Dotty is survived by her husband, John, her sister Luthera Parrack Casteel (William L.) of Rockwood, PA, her brother Luther Deets Parrack, Jr. (Pauline) of Oakland, MD, her son Eric M. Leeson (Michelle) of Cincinnati, OH, daughters Marcia A. Rutledge (Timothy) of St. Louis, MO and Linda L. Herrell (Duke) of Nashville TN. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren Evan, Garrett, Austin, Emily, Sarah, Matthew, Ethan and Eleanor.
Beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend. We will all miss her warm smile, her gentle nature, her positive spirit and her endless loving support.
A memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, August 4, 2013 at 2pm in the Highland Farms Assembly Room, 200 Tabernacle Road, Black Mountain, NC 28711. Visitation with family to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Terra Alta, P.O. Box 94, Terra Alta, WV 26764-0094.
Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.
