Monroe Fortner

Fairview - Monroe Fortner, died Sunday, September 22, 2002, in a local hospital. Mr. Fortner was born in Madison County, North Carolina on January 18, 1936. He was the son of Hattie Worley Fortner of Fairview and of the late Silas Fortner. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Buchanan Fortner. He was a former electrician with Gerber Products Company and was a member of Brush Creek Baptist Church. In addition to his mother, he is survived by a son, Terry Cowan and wife Patti, of Indian Trail; one granddaughter, Tina Droddy, and a great-granddaughter Elizabeth Droddy, both of Fletcher; a brother, Glenn Fortner and a sister Lula Fortner Brown, both of Fairview. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian with the Revs. Hal Rogers and Jeff Wilkie officiating. Burial will follow at Tweeds Chapel Cemetery in Fairview. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
