Mary Charme Pike, 81, of 98 Blue Ridge Avenue, Asheville, died Thursday, October 10, 2002, at her home. Mrs. Pike was born in Marble, was a daughter of the late Homer and Effie Milton Foster and was married to Wade E. Pike who died in 1997. She was a member of West Asheville Baptist Church. Surviving are one daughter, Judy Herwig and her husband Bob of Irvine, CA; a son, Edward Foster Pike of Black Mountain; a brother, Charles Foster and his wife Maxine of Newport, TN; and several nieces and nephews, including Bill Collins and his wife Sue of Mars Hill, Bob Foster and his wife Carol of Swannanoa, Jack Foster and his wife Chris of Morganton, and Dr. Jeffrey Foster of Newport. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Monday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Ken Lewis and David Tucker officiating. Private interment will be at Ashelawn Gardens. Her family will receive friends Monday at the funeral home 30 minutes prior to the service and request that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the Black Mountain Center Foundation in memory of Mary Charme Pike, Black Mountain Center, 932 Old US 70 highway, Black Mountain, NC 28732.
