Guy H. Morris, Sr.

December 22, 1923 ~ May 20, 2016
Resided in:
Weaverville, NC
Guy H. Morris, Sr., 92, died Friday, May 20, 2016, at the CarePartners Solace Center.
Guy was born December 22, 1923, in Asheville to the late George Wilbur and Lillian Mary (Dougherty) Morris and was a lifelong resident of Buncombe County.
Guy worked in the Naval Shipyard in Pittsburgh, PA during WWII and was employed by the City of Asheville Water Department for 35 years as a supervisor until his retirement in 1982.
Following retirement, he pursued many extra roles in local movie productions, including "The Fugitive", "Dirty Dancing", "Richie Rich" and "Royal Match". Guy's favorite sport was golf where he made two "holes-in-one" of which he was very proud. He loved his gardens and flowers and working with red roses.
Guy's family was first and foremost in his life. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Ann (Mulvaney) Morris; sons, Guy H. Morris, Jr. of Weaverville, Charles Stephen Morris and his wife, Suzanne (Moss) Morris of Weaverville, and Dr. David Michael Morris of Birmingham, AL; and grandson, Eric Nathaniel Morris of Raleigh.
Guy was a longtime member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church.
Guy was known well for his playful sense of humor and quick wit. He was never at a loss for words or opinion. He seemed to have decided very early on, "if you have something to say, say it". His honesty revealed a deep love for his family and whatever he was involved in. He never learned how to slow down. He never gave up hope. He was in constant motion ever curious about what may be waiting around the corner. He was a dreamer and a schemer throughout his colorful life.
A Funeral Mass celebrating the life of Guy H. Morris will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Dean Cesa as celebrant and Frs. C. Morris Boyd and John M. Pagel con-celebrating. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
The family will return to St. Joan of Arc to greet family and friends immediately following the committal service at Forest Lawn.
Memorials may be made to St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 768 Asbury Road, Candler, NC 28715.
Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. is assisting the family.
I will never forget the warm smile and twinkle in his eyes. He loved his family so much and was especially proud of the fine men his sons and grandson have become.

To the Morris Family: Your loss is indeed the loss of all of us who had the privileged to know Guy Sr. As he spoke with a smile, he was always up-lifting in his words of faith and encouragement. I found him always humble in his daily achievements with life around him, and gracious with his successes. His love for the Lord and for his family came through without question. May Guy’s strong spirit continue to resonate in each one of you, reminding you of God’s daily love and presence with and for each of you.
Mary Ann and family, Our love and prayers are with each of you. Guy always had me laughing. Even when things in life would probably get most of us down, Guy would find a way to make a joke out of any situation. Guy and the Morris family has greatly touched my life.
