Marie Fullerton Freeman, 72, of Candler, died on Saturday, November 26, 2016.
A native of Wethersfield, CT, Marie was a daughter of the late Perley and Gladys Elizabeth Murray Fullerton. She is survived by her sons, Ty C. Freeman (Michelle), of Raleigh, and Jay E. Freeman (Freddy), of Greenwich, NY; sister, Lois Fullerton Shumaker (Bob) of Fair Oaks, CA; and former husband and dear friend of 50 years, Charles H. Freeman, of Asheville. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Marlee, Calleigh and Jayce.
She graduated from Wethersfield High School in 1961. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Biology at Furman University in 1965. She completed her Master of Social Work at UNC at Chapel Hill in 1992. As a UNC alumni, Marie was a proud Tar Heel fan and also a lover of tennis. She retired in 2003 after 10 years as a social worker with Buncombe Co. Dept. of Social Services. Prior to Social Services, she worked three years with Blue Ridge Mental Health and eight years in teaching with Buncombe Co. Schools. Prior to her career of helping many children and families, Marie was a devoted homemaker & mother.
Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. is assisting the family. A reception and remembrance will be held there on Sunday December 4, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.

My deepest sympathy to Marie’s family. She was a dear friend and coworker and I will miss her. My prayers for the repose of Marie’s soul and peace for her family.
So sorry for your family’s loss. I have the opportunity to teach Mrs. Freeman’s granddaughter in Raleigh, and I know that she loved and respected Mrs. Freeman very much.
My sympathy to the family of Marie. She was a caring person with a love for her family and for pets. She could make you laugh when you were down. Cherish your sweet memories and may the loving hand of God grant you peace.

My condolences to the family; I’m glad you are all there together to comfort each other. I never had the pleasure of meeting Marie, but have known sister Lois in California for over 40 years.
