Kate O'Donnell Bayliss, 86, of Weaverville, NC, passed away in the company of her family on December 29, 2016, at Mission Hospital.
She was born to Edward and Mae O'Donnell of Barnardsville. After graduating from the University of Tennessee, she married the love of her life, J. Bronson Bayliss. The only job she wanted was to be a good wife and mother, and she did both very well.
Kate and Bronson lived in many places during their happy marriage of 64 years, but Asheville was always her home.
Kate was a faithful member of St. Lawrence Basilica, which her grandfather John O'Donnell helped to build. She expressed confidence that she would be joining Jesus in heaven.
In addition to her husband, Kate is survived by her children, Jack Bayliss Jr. (Cathy), Janet Bayliss Causey (Don), Karen Bayliss Curry (Bob), Garry Bayliss (Nancy), and Stephen Bayliss (Kelly Simons); 12 grandchildren, Matt Bayliss (Dora), Katie Zimmerman (Eric), Will Bayliss, Geoffrey Causey (Desiree), Meredith Sigmon (Grant), Bronson Curry, Caroline Curry, Lauren Bayliss, Connie Bayliss, Joanna Bayliss, Connor Bayliss, Gracelyn Bayliss, ; great grandson, Tyler Zimmerman; and sisters Eleanor Starnes, Margaret Shepherd, and Jonnie Lang (Alan).
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday at the Basilica of St. Lawrence, celebrated by the Rev. Fr. C. Morris Boyd, D.Min. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
The family will greet friends from 9:15 to 10:00 a.m. Monday, prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Basilica of St. Lawrence, 97 Haywood St., Asheville NC 28801.
Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. is assisting the family.
Although I didn’t know Kate very well, having met her at the Hamburg Crossing clubhouse, she was lovely. I am so sorry for your loss.
Jack, Jr., you may not remember, but we once lived on Magnolia Street in Greensboro and I served as your court reporter in many occasions. Your Dad and I talked about this. So sorry for your loss.
