Billy Gene Cato

Billy Gene Cato, born April 5, 1929, in Wortham, TX, to Vera Kathryn Wilson Cato and Curtis Gene Cato, died peacefully at his retirement home in Candler, on Saturday, March 4, 2017. He is preceded in death by his parents; only brother, Bobby Wilson Cato; nephew, Kevin Dane Cato; grandson, Curtis Matthew Metzger; uncle, Ben Cato and his wife Johnnie Nell Cato. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Frances Brooks Cato; two daughters, Mary Kathryn Cato and Laura Lynn Cato Metzger; three grandchildren, David Grant Metzger (Christy), Mary Kathryn Metzger Scherzer (Aaron), and Johnathan Aeryck Cato; two great-grandchildren, Simon Cato and Amelia Adelaide Scherzer; as well as nephew, Cary Brent Cato; and cousin, Nancy Nell Cato Bullock and her son, Michael. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 11, at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, New London, TX. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is assisting with the local arrangements.
