Criss Turner Carter, 91, of Asheville, died Thursday, March 16, 2017 at the CarePartners Solace Center. A native of Buncombe Co., he was a son of the late James Carter, Sr. and Lillian Davis Carter. He was also preceded in death by his first wife of thirty-five years, Lucille M. Carter, and brother Bill Carter. Mr. Carter served in the Army Air Corps. during WWII in the European Theater of Operation as a military policeman. He was associated with Morton Distributing Co. for a number of years, and also owned and managed rental properties in West Asheville. His life was lived as one who loved the Lord. He was one of the several members who established the Biltmore Church of Christ in 1967, and served the church as an elder for many years. Surviving are his wife of twenty-five years, Mary Ann Myer Carter; daughter, Patti Franklin and husband Bob of Arden; son, Tim M.C. Carter and wife Joan of Fairview; grandchildren, Nicole F. Rankin (Tyler) of Gastonia, Dr. Robert L. Franklin, III of Asheville, Amber C. Alford (Glenn) of Winston-Salem, and Michael P.J. Carter (Alexandra) of Houston, TX; great-granddaughter Olivia Caroline Rankin of Gastonia; and sister Betty Israel of Candler. Graveside services with military honors will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Matt Goodman and Dr. Gene Rainey will officiate.
