Matthew "Matt" George McDonagh, 59, of Asheville, died unexpectedly Sunday, May 7, 2017.
A native of Pittsburgh, PA, he was a son of Edith McKeever McDonagh of Asheville and of the late John Thomas McDonagh, who died in 2001.
An avid reader, Matt was kind to everyone. He will be greatly missed by his family and everyone who knew him.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by one sister, Casey Braddock (Bob) of Chattanooga, TN; three brothers, Jack McDonagh and Patrick McDonagh, both of Asheville and Barry McDonagh (Myra) of Arden, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Mass Of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, May 10 at St. Barnabas Roman Catholic Church with Father Adrian Porras officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Churchyard in Fletcher. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, May 9 at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian with a Rosary to be said at 7:00 PM.

Sorry this happened to such a great nephew, whomI haven’t seen since mileage kept us apart. I know you will be watching over your mom and family, you will be their butterfly or angel and will be missed by all who knew you. Too bad you didn’t meet Alex Trebeck, I heard that you would of been a good contender on the Jeopardy game show. In heaven, you can do Jeopardy trivia ok, I love you with all my heart Aunt Georgie.
