Wilma Poteat Parham, 80, of Candler, went to be with the Lord July 29, 2017 at Aston Park Health Care Center. Mrs. Parham was born January 20, 1937 in Marion, NC to the late Joe Sephus Peteat and Minnie Pearl Poteat. Wilma worked as co-owner of Beverly Hills Styling and Day Spa in Oteen for over five decades where she specialized in chemo-therapy wigs for cancer patients. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son Jeffrey Scott Parham. Wilma is survived by her husband of 62 years, Grady B. Parham; son, Grady Joe Parham, of Candler; brother, Joe Poteat, of Lampassas, TX; sisters, Hazel Wallace, of Swannanoa, Anne Willis, of Asheville, and Nell Webb, of Asheville; grandchildren, Jacob Parham, Levi Parham and Jocie Parham, all of Candler, and Kaylor Parham, of Charlotte; and numerous nephews and nieces. Funeral services for Mrs. Parham will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at Pole Creek Baptist Church in Candler, with the Rev. Dennis Thurman officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m., prior to the service. The family requests that in lieu of flowers that contributions be made in Wilma’s name to the Alzheimer’s Research Foundation at alzheimersresearchfoundation.com. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. is assisting the family.

I love you very much, I miss you and all the pranks you pulled at the shop, sneaking to see who, drew , who’s name for Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, celebrating you Birthday, beach trips, Pigeon forge trips, sharing a Pepsi and crackers, ever other day, I could go on an on, sssooo many memories!!! Thank you for hiring me 35 yrs ago!!!! You taught everything about hair, and caring so much!!! I miss your laugh, but hear it in my head, Jerry,Tyler and Justinee’ and Carrie loved you very much!!!! So glad I came out last Tuesday, 1 more time, feed you apple sauce and tea, and kissed you 1 last time!! Until we are together again, squeeze Your family, especially Jeff tight!!!! To Grady and Family so sorry for your loss,Wilma was one of a kind,,I can hear her laugh,her voice,,which was only Wilma..I met Grady and Wilma,we were neighbors,1962,I was 20 she was 25,,such a pleasure to be around,,she loved laying in the sun,I remember when she was pregnant,(I had my son Tony Dec.1962)…she was not about to let that get in the way of her sun tanning..She dug out a hole for her tummy and she could lay on her stomach ….getting that beautiful tan..Oh so many memories back then..to The Family ,cherish her memories as I know you will,they are forever and may God give you strength to get pass this and know Life is just a Dash from when we are born til God takes us Home..she is home with her son and family gone on..we have to live the life so we can see her again….as God has promised,he went to prepare a place for us,,,and a new body free from sickness and pain…Keeping you all in my Prayers….

  14. There are SO many wonderful things to say about Wilma and her family, I could write a book! The warmth I always felt around Wilma was incredible. She made you feel like she had known you all her life! But, before I left the shop, she would make me laugh!
    Gone, but not forgotten……so many people love you!

    We were so sorry to hear about the passing of Wilma. We remember the first time that we walked in at Beverly Hills Salon for Grady to cut our hair and we saw Wilma…..her smile would light up a room……what a gracious spirit she had. It has been several years since we last saw her…..Grady you had taken her to Harbor Inn Seafood for supper. We will be praying for you in the days ahead for God to bring great comfort and peace as only He can. God bless you all !!

  20. OMG Grady, I’m soooooo verrrry sorry for your loss!! I’m sorry I am just seeing this now. I absolutely adored Wilma! She was always so good to me! I suppose the blessing is that she’s hopefully no longer suffering. She’ll be missee for sure! An amazing lady! Huge hugs to you my old friend! My sincerest condolences and sympathy and empathy cus as you may or may not know, I’ve buried everyone in my family, incl my 2 oldest and dearest friends in this past year, and I understand devastating loss all too well. Again, I’m so sorry and sorry I am a year late.
