James Thomas Cooper, 84, of 71 Smith Cove Road, Candler, died Friday, January 7, 2005, at St. Joseph’s Hospital. A native of Chester, PA, he was a son of the late Samuel and Nina Cogdill Cooper and was also preceded in death by two sons, Thomas Gary Cooper and Robert Lane Cooper. Mr. Cooper was retired from Champion International with 42 years of service. He was a WWII US Army Air Corps veteran and a member of Central United Methodist Church in Canton. Survivors include his wife, Wilma Rice Cooper; two daughters, Joyce Cooper Coggins and her husband Don of Spartanburg and Norma Dillingham of Asheville; a son, Curtis Cooper and his wife Nan of Black Mountain; a sister, Mary Morgan of Canton; two grandchildren, Jennifer Lane Coggins and John Thomas Coggins. Graveside services will be 3:00 pm Sunday at Pisgah View Memorial Park with the Reverend Edwin H. Olsen, Jr. officiating. His family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery and request that memorials be made to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
