Arthur Calvin Powell
September 23, 1935 ~ August 6, 2018
Resided in:
Candler, NC
Arthur Powell of Candler, NC entered his Heavenly home on August 6th 2018.
Born in Edgefield SC on September 23, 1935, he joined the US Air Force when he was 17 and served 2 terms as a ground controller, including time in Korea. He then began working for Western Electric (later AT&T) and moved to Asheville, NC in 1963 where he met his future wife Pauline. In the years to come they had 3 daughters whom he taught much by word and action. His strict work ethic and sacrifice for his family taught his girls the value of work and accountability. His generosity to not only his own children but other children in need taught his girls the blessing of selfless giving. When his sons-in-law came into the family, he spread that generosity to them as well as his grandchildren. He made many anonymous contributions in his community, yet never wanted recognition for his good deeds. He was a funny man who always had a joke to tell, not all of them were fit for company. He led an amazing life and shared many stories with his children. He was extremely proud of and greatly loved his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Kathleen Powell, his sister, Joann Ratliff, and his granddaughter, Adasson Ray.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Pauline Powell; his daughters, Teresa Kagley (Rick), Jennifer Nave (Jason), and Alicia Ray (Jeff); grandchildren, Janaica, Brittany (Justin), Dylan, Jesse, Paige, Chelsea and Zoe; great grandchildren, Lucy, Elizabeth, Jude, Mason, Liam and Rylynn; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday August 11 at 3:00 p.m. at Hominy Baptist Church in Candler. The family will receive friends at 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you help a child in need or make a donation to Martha’s Kids through Hominy Baptist Church.
Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is assisting the family.
