Coy Glen Johnson

Coy Glen Johnson, 86, passed away Friday, December 7, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his family.
Coy was born in Asheville to the late Glen Raymond Johnson and Carrie Griffin Johnson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty June Johnson and a brother, Hoy Glen Johnson.
Coy was an avid outdoorsman and naturalist to the core. He loved hunting, fishing, hiking and backpacking. He also loved his flowers and planting and gardening. Coy graduated from Western Carolina University with a Masters in Mathematics. He worked as a computer programmer for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association,(NOAA), and then retired to go work with Hertz for another 20 years as a driver. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and served during the Korean War.
He is survived by his two children, Terry James and her husband, Daniel and Mike Johnson; three sisters, Faye Stikus and her husband, Nick, Frieda Wright and Joyce Peterson and her husband, Charles; three grandchildren, Jeffrey Johnson, Danielle Williams and her husband Matt and Scott James and his wife, Lindsay and two great grandchildren, Chase James and Lillian Johnson.
A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 am, Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian. Burial with military honors will follow at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 at the funeral home.
