Murphy Hayes Hodges, 77, of 39 Redfern Street, Asheville, died Sunday, February 13, 2005, at Memorial Mission Hospital. Mr. Hodges was born in Whaley, NC and was a Navy veteran of WW II. He was a former appliance technician with Sears & Roebuck and was a Mason and a member of the Elk’s Club on Haywood Street. He was also a member of Fall Creek Baptist Church in Avery County. Surviving are his wife Clarice Oakes Hodges; two daughters, Evelyn Davis and Darlene Henson, both of Asheville; four grandsons, Eric Henson, Chris Hutcheson, Josh Hutcheson and Michael Hutcheson, and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with the Rev. Mark Jarvis officiating. Burial will follow in the Veterans Cemetery. His family will receive friends from 12:00 noon to 1:15 p.m. Wednesday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue. Memorials may be made to Asheville Chapter, American Red Cross, 100 Edgewood Road, Asheville, NC 28804.
