Billy C. Parker, age 85, died after a short illness on Easter Sunday, April 12 at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC.

Bill the son of the late Frank S. Parker and Clara Parker Roberts was a native of Candler, NC. He served in the U.S. Army Signal Corp during the Korean War conflict. A graduate of Candler High School and Asheville-Biltmore Junior College, he was a 1963 graduate of NC State College with a degree in Civil Engineering Construction. After graduation from State, Bill was employed by the North Carolina Highway Department. He had a 26 year career with the U. S. Department of Defense in civil engineering at Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, GA. When retired from the Civil Service, he worked 15 years for the Houston County Public Works Department in Georgia as a right-of-way acquisitions contractor. Bill was a former member of Snow Hill United Methodist Church in Candler, NC and a member of First United Methodist Church of Warner Robins, GA for 53 years. He served on the First Methodist Board of Trustees and was Chairman for a term. He was a member of the Fidelity Sunday School Class and worked holding babies in the nursery. Bill served on church missions in and out of the country and was an advisor on youth mission trips to the United Methodist Hinton Rural Life Center in Hayesville, NC. He helped to start the Habitat for Humanity chapter at First United Methodist Church. He was a Scoutmaster for Troop 45 at Montmorenci United Methodist Church in Candler and also served as Scoutmaster for Troop 566 for a number of years at Trinity United Methodist Church in Warner Robins.

Bill is survived by his wife of 67 years, Cynthia Mallonee Parker, three children, William Stephen and his wife Jennifer, Edward Franklin and his wife Sherry, and Cynthia Leigh and her significant other Eddie Fesmire, seven grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, July 24, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Snow Hill UMC in Candler, NC., with Rev. Dianne Johnston officiating.

Memorial contributions can be made to Snow Hill United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.

  2. Bill was one of the finest Christian men that I have ever known. He will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him. It has been a privilege to have known him since I was a child (over 50 years). He was a daily blessing for many and truly one of the great ones. Heaven gained a Saint on Easter Sunday .   10. I will never forget your witty sense of humor, your laugh, and your kindness towards me. I have a vivid memory of going into a hobby store in Georgia when I was about 10 and you helping me buy my first Estes modal rocket. I was so excited and thankful. I also remember you giving me my first taste of Red Man chewing tobacco at around 12. I got so sick I never tried it again. You laughed so hard that my sickness turned into a hard laugh. You will be sorely missed. I always enjoyed seeing you and giving me that notoriously, extremely firm handshake that I now give others. Thanks for all the memories. You will never be forgotten! My sincere condolences and love go out to you Cynthia and the rest of the Parker family.

I was a few dollars short of so dearly wanting my very first Estes model rocket. I was about 10. You helped me make up the difference. I was forever grateful for that. When I was about 12, you gave me my first taste of that God awful Red Man chewing tobacco. I got so sick. You laughed so hard you started to cry. Your laugh was so contagious that my illness turned into a laugh myself. You will never be forgotten. It was always a treat when you came to visit and your hand shake was unbelievably firm. Lie Bonnie crushing firm. I give that same hand shake to most people I meet today, except the women of course, Cynthia, my heart and love go out to you for the loss of one of the finest men I have ever known. My condolences and love go out to all the Parker’s. He will forever be missed.
