Robert “Sam” Gosnell, 80, passed away Thursday, August 20, 2020 at the Elizabeth House in Flat Rock.
Mr. Gosnell was born in Buncombe County to the late Jefferson and Cora Fay Letterman Gosnell. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Lavada Snelson.
Sam was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He worked for Kimberly Clark in Hendersonville for 27 years and 14 years for Buncombe County Schools as a Bus Driver. Sam dearly loved his huge family and especially the love of this life Judith whom they were married for 56 years. Sam was a member of Mills River Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Judith Meadows Gosnell; four children; Robbie Allen (Tommy), Robert Gosnell (Christine), Jeff Gosnell (Beth), and Sherrie Gosnell; twelve grandchildren, Judith Hoeingman, Brandy Vick, Justin Allen, Pastor Hunter Blake Gosnell, Jesse Gosnell, Jordin Gosnell, Joshua Wright, Brandon Wright, Hunter Wright, Maddie Gosnell, Bryson Gosnell, and Makayla Gosnell and many more great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Mills River Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Elizabeth House in Flat Rock.

The Brown family is so very sad to hear about Sam’s death. He was Cameron’s first bus driver and we loved him! Our love, prayers, and sympathy to the family. He was a wonderful man!

I am so sorry for your family loss.Sam was my son’s driver at Sandhill-Venable. And later I became a driver Sam taught me a lot. He was a kind and gentle man I am sadden but glad God a great angel.

My brother Marshall sent me the news today. I don’t know if any of your family will remember me but I remember Sam. Sam and I both were teenagers at Westwood Baptist Church at the same time. Sam was 3 years younger than me. It has been a long time since I spoke to Sam. I remember his sister Lavada as well. Please accept my most sincere condolences. May God give you confort in your sorrow.
