LaMont DeBruhl, 73, of Asheville, passed away Saturday, May 29, 2021.

A native of Buncombe Co., LaMont was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Joe Wilde DeBruhl and LuRetta Miller DeBruhl, and by his cousin, Linda Sappington Nelson.

Mr. DeBruhl was a man of many talents. He worked with Buncombe County Forensic Services, and taught photography at several area universities. He was a former President of America’s Society of Photographers and the Southeast Photography Association. He traveled, lectured and judged photography throughout the US and Puerto Rico. His work hangs in the Professional Photographer Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City.

He was a member of Kenilworth Presbyterian Church for over 70 years, and served as Chairman of the Board of Deacons.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 7, at Green Hills Cemetery.

  2. Donovan family will miss his smiles at our antics across the road. Remembering his kind words and our fun memory of two little girls on a mission to sneak over an Easter basket for “Mr. Lamont.”

  4. When the Jaycees and Jaycettes were in charge, LaMont took photos of all of the contestants (there were 15 in 1979) for the Miss Asheville Pageant program book, and then had the official portrait hung at a steakhouse at Westgate! Always so kind and generous with his gifts.

LaMont was “Mr. Handyman” and could fix anything that was in need of repair at his Kenilworth Presbyterian Church home, from plastering walls, repairing old fluorescent light fixtures, the broken steeple bell, mowing equipment, etc. I am sure he will be missed by those who crossed paths with LaMont.   11. Butch was a man of many talents. Joe, Lureta & Butch was our neighbors for 27 years. Lots of good memories. Butch was always ready to help with anything needed fixing, and if he didn’t know exactly how to do it, he would get the manually on line & read it & was good to go. Very intelligent. Last time we seen Butch of course was Little Pigs. He loved working there. Very good with people, making then feel welcome. Prayers with the Family.

  14. I met him when I was 17 years old and he was convinced that I should be a model, of all things. He took a ton of pictures of me, at no charge, and they were beautiful. He was very talented. He was very kind and really believed in me.
