Asheville Butterfly TrailLeo Gaines, 69, of Asheville, passed away Thursday, June 10, 2021.
A native of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Harry and Maude Blanton Gaines and was also preceded in death by one sister, Sally Gaines.
Leo was a proud US Army Veteran and worked as a juvenile behavioral specialist for the State of North Carolina.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Brindia Arrington Gaines; four daughters, Sybil Jefferson (Damion), Jeanine Morgan (Tim), Margaret Lewis (Emory) and Charlene Bryson; three sisters, Brenda Whitmire (Johnny), Joyce Johnson (Bill) and Roberta Thomas; three brothers, Harry Gaines Jr. (Monica), John Henry Gaines (Brenda) and Tommy Lee Gaines; grandchildren, Damion Jefferson Jr., Samarra Jefferson and Savannah Jefferson, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
A Memorial Service to honor Leo’s life and legacy will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 26 in the Chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian and the service will be streamed live on the Groce Funeral Home Facebook page (www.facebook.com/grocefh). His family will receive friends at the funeral home immediately following the service.
