Paul Joseph Upham

Paul Joseph Upham, 81, passed away Thursday, March 3, 2022 in Winston Salem under hospice care.

Mr. Upham was born in Lynn, Massachusetts in 1940 to the late Wesley and Mary Riley Upham. He lived in Pawling, NY for 48 years.

Paul graduated from St. Mary’s High School, St. Michael’s College, and Western Connecticut University post graduate program. He was a former human resources executive and educator in New York. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during the Vietnam War. He loved teaching, golfing and reading. He was a member of the Buncombe County Library Book Club.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Yamartino Upham; seven children, Jennifer Pollock (Daniel), Peter Upham (Stefanie), David Upham (Libby), Kathryn Schultz (Edwin), Amy Upham (Amanda), Marianne Erhardt (Robert) and Emily Mellen (Steven); one sister, Julie Mairano (Frank); eighteen grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

A funeral mass will be held on Monday, March 21, 2022 at 11:00 am at St. Barnabas Catholic Church. The burial with military honors will take place at the State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain later in the day at 2:00 pm.
