Mr. Paul Lindsey Mann, 92, passed away at his home Sunday, March 13, 2022.
Mr. Mann was born January 16, 1930, in Transylvania County to the late John Wesley Mann and Lesie Lance Mann. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Mary Patelidas Mann, son, Christopher Paul Mann, and all of his siblings: Pete, Jerry, Bud, Edna Danielson, and Mary Hall.
Left to cherish his memory are his son, Michael Lindsey Mann and his wife, Sonja; a grandson, Robert Paul Mann and his wife Rachel; and a great-grandson, Russell Paul Mann. Paul will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Paul grew up in the mountains of W.N.C. and graduated from Brevard High School. He studied electronics at the Commercial Trade Institute and Coyne College in Chicago. He then served our country for 4 years in the United States Navy as a Machinist Mate during the Korean War.
He started his work in restaurant equipment and soon after opened Service Engineering Company in Asheville in 1961, where he worked until he was 90 years old.
Paul was a former Scoutmaster, Scout Committee Member, Webelos Leader, and Cub Master of Troop 3, Asheville. Both of his sons and grandson are Eagle Scouts. He was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church since 1956, where he served on the Administrative Board, as President of United Methodist Men, and as Chairman of the Trustees. He volunteered on 19 mission trips with building teams to Mexico, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, Haiti, and Alaska.
A memorial service will be held Saturday March 26, 2022 at Trinity United Methodist Church in West Asheville at 3:00 pm in the afternoon with the Reverends Nancy Dixon Walton and Rodney Hagans officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

I didn’t know Paul personally but I have gotten to know his son Mike and grandson Robbie. If this is any indication of how Paul was, he must have been an amazing man! I’m sorry I did not get to meet him.

Robbie & I are so sorry to hear of Paul’s passing. Keeping the family in our thoughts and prayers. I met Paul when he came to Southeastern Container to work on some of our equipment in the lab. I had no idea at the time that we were related. Paul’s mother and my maternal grandfather were brother and sister.

I am so sad to hear about Paul. Apparently, he used to tell my dad stories about hiking the mountains. Every drive daddy and I would take, he would say, Paul Mann walked up there.
Paul was by my side and held my hand through my father’s funeral. He was sweet and kind, and I will never forget him.

He gave my dad a job — and that’s why I and my dear family are alive. Please remember that.

It was a privilege to know Paul — he was a dear man, a kind man, a gentle man. I remember his wonderful smile! He loved his family, his friends, his church, his work — the list goes on. Even after I no longer worked at Trinity UMC, I always loved it when I ran into him and we would catch up on years gone by. My love and prayers are with all the family — I think of you all so often and with great fondness.
My heart is broken to hear of his passing. I know he and Mary are rejoicing at being together once again. I am so very sorry Mike and Sonya. Prayers to you all
Mike: I was so sorry to hear of your father’s passing. What a cornerstone he was in our church! Growing up, I remember how he and your mother were involved with the youth, and he was always doing something for the church, either physically or financially. The news of Paul’s passing brought great sadness to our world, just knowing such a special soul was no longer on earth. At the same time, all I could picture was his huge smile because he got to be with his beloved Mary again! Paul changed our lives for the better and provided so much love and guidance, a true father figure to so many. We love you all.

I’m very sorry to hear of Mr. Mann’s passing. I can’t remember a time in my life growing up when he wasn’t a part of it. He helped to shape me through church and scouting for which I’ll always be appreciative. Both your folks were awesome human beings and very good to our mother. I will keep you all in my prayers.

Mike, Sonja, and the family…..I am so sorry to hear about Paul’s passing. Our paths crossed a number of times at Scouting activities, and I always admired his humility and his caring for the Scouts as he shared his knowledge and support with them. I only wish I could have spent more time with him as my mentor. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

Mike and family, we are so sorry for your loss. Paul was such a wonderful person and a great friend to my dad, Gus Kooles. He was such a caring, honest, Christian man who will be missed. He was so gracious when Dad started Barbecue Inn by extending credit to him early on (1961) because he trusted Dad. He always had a wonderful smile and a great handshake.
