Claire Ruth Buckner Penland, 75, passed away Monday, April 11, 2022 at The Oaks at Sweeten Creek Nursing Home.
Mrs. Penland was born in Fletcher, NC to the late Berlin and Nola Souther Buckner. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Penland; two brothers, Richard and Foy Buckner and her sister, Marie Buchanan.
Claire was a member of Biltmore Church. She retired from Buncombe County Schools as an Elementary Teacher’s assistant and Bus Driver. She loved crocheting, cooking, and watching Westerns.
She is survived by her son, Daryl Fox and his wife, Paula; a grandson, Greg Parham II, and his wife, Maryann; a great grandson, Conner; a brother, Frank Buckner; a sister, Georgia Fox and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 15, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Bethany United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Claire was my teacher’s assistant for a few years when I taught Kindergarten at Fairview Elementary. I loved how she welcomed the children each morning with her beaming smile!
Claire was one of the sweetest ladies I ever met. So sorry to hear about this. I loved her sweet smile.
