Steven A. Butler, 56, died unexpectedly Friday, August 19, 2022, at his home.

Steve was born November 30, 1965, in Buncombe County to Barbara Jean Brackett Hensley and the late Johnny Alexander Butler, Jr. He was an independent contractor specializing in painting and fencing.

He is survived by his mother and step-father, Barbara Jean Hensley and her husband, Bill; sisters, Rosemary Slagle, Sheri Foster (Mickey), Amanda Singley (Henry) and Kimberly McElrath (John); a number of nieces and nephews, and by his former wife, Debbie Fisher. He was preceded in death by brothers, Johnny Butler III and Keith Brackett.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian with the Rev. Keith Dockins officiating. Burial will follow at New Salem Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

  5. Steve was my cousin. We used to hang out with each other a lot back in the 80’s. There were a few of us teenagers that would stay in the “little house” for days at a time. Those were good memories. I hated to hear he passed away. My prayers go out to the rest of the family. God bless you.
