Resided in: Buncombe County, North Carolina

Billie Jo Glenn Dean, 89, of Glenn Bridge Road flew to Heaven on Monday, December 8, 2025. She joins her beloved husband, David Lee Dean, with whom she celebrated 49 years of marriage.

A native of Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late George Curtis Glenn and Zelma M. Glenn.

Mrs. Dean worked many years at Taylor Instrument Company & became an active member of the ABWA, the American Business Women’s Association. After retiring, she pursued a 2nd career with Lamar Outdoor Advertising Company until the age of 83.

She was a wonderful mom and granny and was devoted to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Fletcher First Baptist Church was her beloved church home, and she cherished her ladies’ Sunday school class. She was an avid reader, had a true love of flowers, and her back porch feeder was a gathering place for every bird in the neighborhood. She loved every aspect of her beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains.

Surviving are her children: Debra Ruth (Lee), David Dean, Jr. (Julie), and Jackie Hart (Mike). She is also survived by six grandchildren: Aaron, Amy, April, Megan, John, and Sam, along with seven great grandchildren: Kaylee, Tanner, Walter, Samuel, Jacob, June, and Henry. Also surviving are sister Freida Armstrong and brother Woodfin Glenn.

She is preceded in death by her daughter, Lisa Dean Connor, her grandson, Marshall Todd Hood, and her brothers John & George Glenn.

Receiving of friends will be on Saturday, December 13, 2025 from 1:00 – 2:00 at Fletcher First Baptist Church, located at 5 Cane Creek Road in Fletcher, NC. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 PM, with Pastor Roy Waldroup officiating. A graveside service will follow at Avery’s Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery, with Pastor Gunne Davis officiating.

We will be forever thankful and grateful for all the staff at Spring Oak Assisted Living Center, York, SC, Debra Bellinger, Mom’s private sitter, and Providence Hospice Care for their love and care during the last years of her life. Truly a blessing.

Memorials may be made to Fletcher First Baptist Church and Groce Funeral Home’s Lake Julian team is assisting the family.

Guestbook

  1. I love you, Debbie, & we pray your family finds comfort in the many wonderful memories that were made with your precious Mom. I remember how beautiful I thought she was when I met her at your baby shower a life time ago. Like you, Mrs. Dean grew more beautiful with age. May peace join the place in your heart that will always be held by your Mom.
