Viola Pressley Rogers, 103, of 213 Richmond Hill Drive, Asheville, went peacefully home to be with her Savior, husband, family and friends Monday, August 1, 2005. Mrs. Rogers was born in Marshville, NC but had lived in Asheville since 1942. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church since moving to Asheville. She was a well known seamstress in West Asheville for many years and a former representative for Avon Cosmetics. She was a daughter of the late Thomas A. and Lucy Meigs Pressley and was the loving wife of John N. Rogers for 71 years. He preceded her in death in 1989, as did both her children, Pat R. Moss of Candler and Jack Rogers of Hilliard, FL, three sisters, Ella and Beulah Pressley and Bleeka Jordan, five brothers, Horace, Dewitt, Houston, Blaine (Bill) and Boyd Pressley and one granddaughter Cheryl Rogers Lee. Surviving are her son-in-law, R.G. Moss of Candler; five grandchildren, Lynda M. Alexander of Advance, NC, Steve Moss of Asheville, Ken Moss of the Emma Community, Randy Rogers of Sarasota, FL and Susan Barth of Jacksonville, FL; two great-grandchildren and three nieces and nephews from the Pressley family. A funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Donald N. Welborn at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Mausoleum. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 531 Haywood Road, Asheville, NC 28806. The family extends appreciation to all the staff who cared for her at WNC Baptist Home, where she resided for the past fifteen years.
