Richard Herman Medford, 87, of 144 Shelburne Road, Asheville, died Sunday, August 7, 2005, at Hospice Solace Center. A native of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Herman and Carrie Peebles Medford and was also preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Warren Medford, who died in 1994 and a son-in-law, Bruce Gossett, who died in 1993. He was retired from the Asheville/Buncombe School Systems, was a US Air Force veteran of WWII and a member of Sand Hill Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Judy G. Lance and her husband Mike of Asheville; two grandchildren, Blaine Gossett and Katrina Gossett; two great-grandchildren, Cullen Gossett and Krislynn Hawkins and two brothers, Alex Medford and Dennis Medford, both of Candler. Graveside services will be 2:00 pm Thursday at Pisgah View Memorial Park with the Reverend Melvin Brooks officiating. His family will receive friends from 12:30-1:30 pm Thursday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue prior to the service.     Susie and I are sorry to hear of the passing of your father, Richard, and wish to express our sympathy and condolences to you. We have many memories of the good times we had with the Medford family. Your Dad was a very special friend to us and we’ll miss him much.     I know the pain you feel right now. It is tough. Your dad was one of my favorite patients at Dr. Bobbitts. I missed seeing him. I know we will see him again. I am praying for you because I so know the hurt and emptiness when you loose a dad. I pray God comforts you in every way. I truly loved your dad and he will be missed by many.
