Virginia Wright, 93, of 114 Arthur Road, Malvern Hills, Asheville, died Friday. February 3, 2006, at the Hospice Solace Center. Miss Wright was born in Asheville and was a daughter of the late George Herbert Wright and Irene Gillam Wright. She was a graduate of Duke University. She began her career teaching Bible in several public elementary schools in Virginia, and when the curricula changed removing Bible studies from public schools, she worked as a fourth grade teacher, and later as a school librarian. She returned to Asheville in 2001 and maintained a thirst for knowledge. She attended UNC-A Senior College and exercised regularly, attending spa classes several times each week until recently. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Asheville. Miss Wright is survived by a sister, Irene Anderson, and a brother, George Wright, Sr., both of Asheville, and by nieces and nephews who loved her dearly: Christine and Steve Flynn of Boston, MA, Bill and Sandy Anderson of Asheville, Ken and Ginger Anderson of Asheville, Jane and John Youl of Cleveland, OH, Janet Piercy of Sydney, Australia, George Wright of Mobile, AL, Ed and Sheila Wright of Raleigh, and Jimmy and Trudy Wright of Indiana, and several great-nieces and great-nephews. The family plans a memorial service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
