Norma Armstrong Young, 59, of 440 Bear Creek Road, Leicester, died Tuesday, February 4, 2003, at her home. Mrs. Young was born in Dallas, TX, and was a daughter of the late Albert A. and Jessie Mildred Gilmore Armstrong. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Betty Armstrong. She was a former Navy Petty Officer and was a human resources and retirement planning administrator. She attended Big Sandy United Methodist Church, Calvary Baptist Church, and the Universal Unitarian Church. Surviving are her husband, Toby E. Young; a daughter, Dia Young Garland of Ponca, NE; a son, Toby E. Young, III of Seattle, WA; three sisters, Mary Armstrong, Wanda Armstrong, and Patricia Leverette of Dallas; three brothers, Don and C.W. Armstrong of Oklahoma City, OK and John Armstrong of Dallas, TX; and three grandchildren, Stephan Marc Garland, Kyra Elise Garland and Joel Ben Garland. A memorial service will be at 11:00 am Saturday, February 22, in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Ed Worley officiating. Burial will be Monday, April 7, 2003, at 11:00 am at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego, CA. Her family will receive friends at her residence immediately following the memorial service.

  1. Norma was a good friend of ours we had known her for eight years. she live on big sandy mush before moving to bare creek. we were very close and she will be missed we had some good times setting out tobacco we love her and miss her.
