Ethel A. Buckner

Ethel Armstrong Buckner, 79, of Givens Estates, Asheville, died Tuesday, June 13, 2006, at the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge, TN. Mrs. Buckner was a daughter of the late Rufus S. Armstrong, Sr. and Corrie Allison Armstrong, and her second mom, Eula Armstrong. She was also preceded in death by her husband, J. Jarvis Buckner, who died in 1972, and by a sister, Esther A. Glenn. Surviving are a daughter, Sandra B. Downs and her husband, J.R.; a son, Thomas J. Buckner and his wife, Susan; a sister, Louise M. Moody; two brothers, Roy A. Armstrong and Rufus S. Armstrong, Jr.; her best friend and companion, James Brooks; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 16, at Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Joe Fulk officiating. The family will greet visitors after the service in the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Givens Estates Supplemental Assistance Fund, 2360 Sweeten Creek Road, Asheville, NC 28803. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue will is in charge of the arrangements.
