Frank Horton Sams, 87, of Asheville, passed away Monday, April 2, 2007 at St. Joseph’s Hospital. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Henry Ray and Mabel Horton Sams. He was a graduate of Lee H. Edwards High School and Blanton's Business College. He was associated with Wade’s T.V. and Appliance Center for nearly 50 years. Mr. Sams was a member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church and was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. Surviving are his wife, Roberta Wade Sams; two daughters, Donna Jean Wallen and her husband William of Asheville and Karen Marie Sams of Candler; two brothers, J.F. Sams of Tulsa, OK and Mack Sams of Candler; and four grandchildren, Joshua and Jennifer Wallen, and Karen and Michele Miola-Sams. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday at Oak Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Wesley Austin officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial donations may be made to Oak Hill United Methodist Church 227 Oak Hill Road Candler, NC 28715 or to the Alzheimer's Association 31 College Place Suite D 320 Asheville, NC 28801. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is assisting the family.

  2. We were very sorry to hear about the death of Frank. We dealt with him for years at Wade’s. He was such a fine person he will be greatly missed by everyone. Our prayers and thoughts are with all of you.

    I am so sorry to just learn of Mr. Sams death. Although I have not seen you in many years, I often think with great affection and pleasure of the many wonderful days I spent in your home with Karen as we were growing up. I can only hope that your years of happiness and many good memories will enable you to live with this sad loss.
