Betty Ditto Allen

Betty Ditto Allen, 70, of 136 Black Oak Cove Road, Candler, died Monday, July 21, 2003, at her home. A native of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late Richard and Nellie Mills Ditto and was also preceded in death by her husband, Edward D. Allen, who died in 1989. She was a retired LPN and a member of Laurel Hill United Methodist Church where she served as Church Treasurer and Communion Steward for a number of years and was on the Board of Trustees. Mrs. Allen is survived by a daughter, Teresa Allen Elliott of Candler; a son, James Edward Allen and his wife Kelly of Candler and three grandchildren, Amanda Elliott, Alex Allen and Connor Allen. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday at Laurel Hill United Methodist Church with the Revs. Gerald Denham, Ed Worley and John Erwin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Her family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 pm at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue. Flowers will be appreciated or donations may be made to Laurel Hill United Methodist Church Building Fund, c/o Rose Marie Saleska, 78 Brown Lynch Road, Candler, NC 28715 or to the family c/o Teresa Elliott, 138 Black Oak Cove Road, Candler, NC 28715.

  2. Betty Allen was a wonderful woman with a very gentle spirit. She stayed with my grandparents to care of them for a while and no one could have been more caring. I have very fond memories of her smile.

  8. I was saddened to read in the obituary column of Betty’s death. I worked with her many years ago at Pisgah Manor Nursing Home in Candler. I was, at that time, the charge nurse on the 200 Wing on the 3-11 shift. Betty was always a delight to be around. I’ll never forget her quick smile and witty remarks as she gave me the report on our patients (during her 7-3 shift) before she went off duty. I really liked her; and I know that she will be sorely missed. It was a privilege just knowing her. I extend my deepest sympathy to her family during this difficult time.
