Mr. Sugg was a US Air Force veteran of WWII and worked for Bell Sysco for 34 years without missing a single day of work. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a lifelong member of the Basilica of St. Lawrence where he served as an Extrodinary Minister of Communion.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Basilica of St. Lawrence at 2:00 pm Friday with the Very Reverend Wilbur N. Thomas, V.F. officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hills Cemetery
His family will receive friends from 1:30-2:00 pm Friday at the church and request that memorials be made to the American Heart Association Memorial Center, PO Box 5216, Glenn Allen, VA 23058 or to the Basilica of St. Lawrence, 97 Haywood Street, Asheville, NC 28801.
Our family knew John and Hazel since we moved to Asheville in 1958. My father, Chuck Benes knew John, not only in the business world, but through the Knights and by both being Extraodinary Ministers. I believe John was also often referred to as one of the ‘ancient acolytes’ by Father Carl. This was a gentle joke, but John’s faithfulness will be the cornerstone of his memory. I wish there were more men with his tenacity and loyalty. We will all miss him.
Dear Hazel,
We sent our condolences last night but we did not know if it got forwarded to you. We are so sorry about John’s death. We know you will miss him terribly after so many years!
We pray God will grant you peace as you lay John to rest and you live without him. We miss seeing you both.
Blessings,
Dr. David and Edna Becker
My family and I will keep John in our prayers and trust that he now abides in the Heavely Kingdom where he is most deserving. May our God receive him into eternal and everlasting life.
Hazel, Jeanne, and Ruth and families,
We were so sorry to read about John’s death. If anyone gets to heaven it will be John. He was so devout in attending Mass every day.
Our love and prayers are with you.
Gene and Joan Johnson
