Martha Parham Drake, 64, of 6 Beaverdam Knoll Rd., Asheville, died on Thursday, July 24, 2008 at the Golden Living Nursing Center.
A native of Asheville, Ms. Drake was the daughter of the late Richard C. and Anna Matilda Ingle Parham. Ms. Drake was a beautician for many years and was the owner of two shops on the Weaverville Highway. She was also employed by Brentwood Villas and Brentwood Nursing Home for many years. She was an avid crochet artist, and was musically gifted.
Ms. Drake was survived by her sons, Donnie Lee Rice and James "Jamie" Rice and wife Tawana, all of Asheville; sister, Kathleen Webb; and three grandchildren, Jake, Justin, and Blaine.
Her family will receive friends at the home of Kathleen Webb, 55 Clarendon Ave., on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

I came to know Martha through her sister, Kathleen a few years ago. The first time I heard Martha’s music, I could hear the passion in her voice that you could feel in your soul. She was truly talented. I enjoyed her humor and wit. I will miss her laughs and wisdom. She was a member of a wonderful family and her long-time friends were truly blessed to have had her as their friend. I will miss Martha and although she was my friend for a shorter time than most, I realize how fortunate I was to have her touch my life.
I worked with Martha many years ago at Brentwood. I can not tell you how sorry I am to here of her passing. Martha was a great friend and wonderful person. She was always so proud of her boys and her grandsons! My thoughts and prayers are with you.
