James Gary Leonard, 71, of East Flat Rock, died on Wednesday, October 7, 2009, at Memorial Campus, Mission Hospitals. A native of Youngstown, OH, Mr. Leonard was the son of the late James and Rose Mary Roys Leonard. He was also preceded in death by a son, Todd Joseph Leonard. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Mr. Leonard was a retired pressman for the New York Times. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Finkelday Leonard; daughter, Donna Marie Leonard, of New York; sons, James Gary Leonard, of Flat Rock, and Jason Sean Leonard, of Hendersonville; six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. A funeral service for Mr. Leonard will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Western Carolina State Veteran's Cemetery, in Black Mountain. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. is assisting the family.

  3. Aunt Millie, Sorry to hear about your unexpected loss. My Mom and Dad are also upset. I will remember him as a fun loving person, based on the stories I’ve heard from when he was in the service with my Dad. I was really young, but I remember him visiting us in his VW ‘Thing’, and when he picked me up from the Navy ship when I was in New York during fleet week. (on his motorcycle) Please contact me if there’s anything I can do to help.
