Ruth Madeline Fanning, 94, died Monday, January 25, 1999, at her home at the Givens Estates.
Miss Fanning was born in Asheville and was a daughter of the late Homer and Etta Fanning. She was a graduate of UNC-Greensboro and taught mathematics at Lee H. Edwards/Asheville High School. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
She is survived by two nephews, Emory M. Fanning of Middlesbury, VT, and John B. Fanning of Green Valley, AZ.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Private interment will be at Riverside Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 5 Oak Street, Asheville, NC 28801.

A memorial service will be at 10:00 am Saturday, June 5, 1999, at the First Baptist Church. Private interment was at Riverside Cemetery.

She was my Aunt, my freind, and I will miss her very much. She was a lady…………
Although I never had her as a student, I do remember the many times she joined our family celebrations with Uncle Tom and Aunt Marguerite, and I remember what a real southern lady she was. And then, as a high school student, passing her in the hallways, I was always proud that she recognized me and spoke. She was always gracious and had a way of making us youngsters feel good. All who knew her are better people because of her.
