Thomas Carlyle Franklin, Sr.
October 12, 1922 ~ January 4, 1999
Thomas Carlyle Franklin, Sr., of 67 Souther Road, Fletcher,
died Monday, January 4, 1999 in a Henderson County
hospital.
A native of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late
Vuland V. and Bessie Berry Franklin. He was a graduate of
Biltmore High School in 1951 and a member of South
Buncombe Baptist Church. For the past 39 years he had
been music director at several churches, including South
Buncombe Baptist and at Fairview, Shaws Creek, Ridgeway
and Deaverview Baptist Churches. He was a Little League
Baseball Coach and served as President of South Buncombe
Baseball for 3 years.
He is survived by his wife, Eldora G. Franklin; five sons and
daughters-in-law, Tom and Lynn, Doug and Monica, Mike and
Sheila, Ric and Michelle and Rod and Angel Franklin; a sister,
Irene Trent of Tellico Village, Tenn.; two brothers, Van
Franklin, Jr. of Virginia Beach, VA, Charles E. Franklin of
Hendersonville, Tenn. and 12 grandchildren.
Services will be held at 6:30 pm Wednesday in the chapel
of Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue conducted by the
Rev. Larry Henderson. The family will receive friends
immediately following the service Wednesday from 7:00 until
9:00 pm at the funeral home.
Interment will be at 1 pm Thursday in Forest Lawn Memorial
Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Fellowship
Hall Building Fund of the South Buncombe Baptist Church, 370
Mills Gap Road, Asheville, NC 28803.
