Katherine "Kay" Heglund
September 6, 1919 - February 12, 2010
Kay was a graduate of Lakeland High School and Florida Southern College. She was married to Earl "Honey" Heglund for thirty years until he passed away in 1970.
Kay taught school for fifty years, primarily in the Palm Beach County school system. As a woman of faith, her love language was helps, and she enjoyed serving others in many capacities. Her greatest joy and ministry was being "Grandma Kay" to all the babies and children in her church nursery.
The Lord blessed Kay and Earl with six children: Linda (Dale) Butler, Ted (Judith) Heglund, Carolyn (Rodney) Smith, Dennis [1950 - 2006] (Phyllis) Heglund, Lorna (Jim) Sampsell, and Chris Heglund. She also had thirteen grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren.
She will be greatly missed by her siblings, immediate and extended family members and friends.

Katherine was my first cousin, but because of a 15-year difference in our ages and our wide geographic separation, we seldom got to see one another. I am the poorer for that, as I knew her reputation as a great teacher. As a child, I remember visiting her and ‘Honey’ at their home in West Palm Beach and I remember then thinking I had never met any Christians who were also so much fun. The last time I talked to Katherine by phone, I asked about a story concerning our grandparents ‘sailing’ to Lake Worth in the early 1890s to establish a Methodist mission at Lantana. She confirmed all but the ‘sailboating’ & said ‘better check your facts, young man’ — and me 70+ years of age! But she was right, because steamboats were making that run by that point in time. She was a great teacher and a great woman! All the Best, Earl
When I heard that Kay was in Asheville, NC I was surprised that she was so close, not over 25 miles but I was unable to get to see her. I would have loved to have seen her, but now will have to wait a little while. What a lovable ‘saint’– I was blessed to know her! Ivor Lois
We were so saddened to hear of Kay’s passing. Kay was a wonderful woman of faith and a shining example of Christian living. Her large, extended family was blessed to have Kay’s presence in their lives for so many years.
When Rick spoke with Kay just last month (after his mom, Lorna went to be with the Lord) she sounded just like she always did… upbeat, cheerful and encouraging.
Our thoughts and our prayers are with the family at this difficult time.
Love in Christ,
Our love and prayers are with the family. We have so many fond memories of Kay and the family from FHA. We know she is rejoicing with our Lord in Heaven and enjoying the rewards she so richly deserves.
