Clarence Glenn Sexton, Sr.

May 22, 1916 ~ June 27, 1999
Mr. Sexton was born in
Cocke County, TN, and was a son of the late Hugh Allen and Martha Jane Lamb Sexton. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Payne
Sexton who died in 1996. He was retired from American Enka and Union Carbide in Oak Ridge, TN. He was a member of Pole Creek Baptist Church.
Mr. Sexton participated in gospel singing from the age of 14 until his death. He sang with many gospel groups and was active in singing conventions.
He is survived by his wife,
Ava Sexton; eight daughters, Shirley Sluder, Betty Stroud and Helen Wiggins of Asheville, Carolyn Moss of Greenville, SC, Janie Davis of
Bladenboro, NC, Tommie Wiggins of LaVergne, TN, and Judy Chadwick and Darlene Sexton of Candler; four sons, Bruce Sexton of Dunkirk, IN, Clarence Glenn Sexton, Jr. of Southern Pines, Jeff Sexton of Leicester and Robert Sexton of Fairview; two step-children, Judy Garrett and Joseph Nelson of Conway, Ark.; a sister, Grace Davis of Candler;
a brother, Jack Sexton of Leesburg, FL; thirty grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Wednesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Dennis Thurman and Bobby Watts officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
His family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Tuesday at the funeral home and at other times will be at the home.
His family requests that memorials be made to the American
